Homemade Peppermint Lip Balm

Homemade Peppermint Lip Balm

Have you ever wanted to make a chemical-free lip balm? No? Maybe? Well, either way, now you can! Here's a simple recipe and we even have a couple of the ingredients in stock for you. Both Lanolin and Beeswax can be used in many natural cosmetic recipes and they shine (literally) in this one.

Homemade Peppermint Lip Balm

Ingredients:
3 TBSP - Shea Butter
2 TSP - Beeswax Pellets
2 TBSP - Nourishing Oil (examples include jojoba, coconut, apricot, avocado or sweet almond)
½ TSP - Lanolin
10 drops peppermint essential oil

Instructions:

  1. In a glass bowl, combine the shea butter and beeswax pellets.
  2. Place the glass bowl on top of a saucepan partially filled with water over medium heat. Heat until the beeswax pellets have melted, stirring when needed.
  3. Turn off the heat and remove the bowl from the saucepan. Stir in the oil, lanolin and peppermint essential oil.
  4. The lip balm will start to set as the mixture cools down, so be sure to move quickly here. Pour the lip balm into the containers you have prepared and allow to sit for 5 minutes until fully set.

Lanolin adds extra moisture to this recipe - perfect for chilly days, windy weather or a cold climate.

Another type of essential oil could be substituted if you prefer, try tangerine/vanilla, coconut or citrus.

Depending on the size of containers you have selected to use, this recipe will yield between 6-8 containers of lip balm.
